noun
a program that searches for and identifies items in a database that correspond to keywords or characters specified by the user, used especially for finding particular sites on the World Wide Web.

  • A web tool that allows users to enter keywords and find information on websites contained in its database.
  • Search Engines like Google or Yahoo uses software that collects data from the Web to include in its database.

Fyi, each search engine has its own database.

There are Four Parts of a Search Engine:

  1. Database - which is simply the storage of all the indexed webpages
  2. Web crawlers/Spiders - It is an automatic program that 'crawls' collecting info that then stored in database.
  3. User interface - A user-friendly app/site/page where users may input query and search results are presented.
  4. IRS (Info Retrieval System) - match user's query with right results and presented according to relevance.

Okay, that's all from me.
Thankyou people!

The Evolution of CALL

Haluuuuuu, yeah today I would like to write about the evolution of CALL.
What do you think about that? Is that related with Charles Darwin's theory about Human?
*of course not, come on Aten πŸ‘€*

Let me tell you what i have learned about the changes and transformation occur in the topic, CALL.

There are 3 types of progression of CALL which are;

  1. Behaviouristic CALL
  2. Communicative CALL
  3. Intergrated CALL

Let's begin with Behaviouristic CALL?

Did you know that it has been developed in 1960's based from behaviourist learning theory.
It is primary used for Audio-Lingual method. The Programmed Instruction involves repetitive drill and practice. Which is this type of progression of CALL, also can be labelled as the ultimate teacher's assistant.

It was simply can be understood that it is a program to make the students learn into computer-based application. There's no need to bring the heavy textbooks to school or there's no more excuses of missing the worksheet. *excuses that people always use*
This is because it is a tireless drillmaster with a perfect pronunciation model.

Next, Communicative CALL.

It was implemented between 1970's and 1980's. So, basically the approaches based on communicative that teaches second or foreign languages. It focuses more on how to use the forms rather than perfect grammar.

There are THREE (3) roles of computer in Communicative CALL which are;

1. Computer as Tutor - which means computer as the teacher. For example, we use computer to do practice. The examples of programs is language games such as word search.

2. Computer as a Stimulus - which means computer are capable to stimulate thinking and etc. Programs that are designed to help in problem solving such as Sim City.

3. Computer as a Tool - which means we can use software in the computer as a tools for language learning.

Lastly, Integrated CALL.

It is basically the integration of real-world materials into CALL. It began with the use of CD-ROMs to store large amounts of authentic media that can be used as materials.

Why the Internet and CALL was related to each other? It is because recent advances in CALL is dominated by the internet to access and communicate information.

Thankyou for read this people! Love, Atennn πŸ’›
